Summary

The UK faces a real threat from terrorism and crowded places remain an attractive target. To combat this threat, the Government has developed a strategic framework to reduce the vulnerability of crowded places to terrorist attack and published a package of guidance for local partners on 18 March 2010. This planning guidance was part of the package. It provides advice to local planning authorities (LPAs) on how to reduce the vulnerability of crowded places by incorporating counter terrorism measures into the design of buildings and public spaces, particularly in high risk areas, through innovative and high quality design.
