The Europa website allows you to check the validity of UK and other EU Member States' VAT identification numbers.

Please note that this service will only tell you whether the VAT identification number is valid or not valid at the time that you make the enquiry.

On acquiring a new EU customer we suggest that you check the validity of their VAT identification number.

As a preliminary check you can use the EU Commission's site to confirm the number is valid. However to be certain that your customer's details are correct we strongly recommend you contact the VAT Helpline on Tel 0845 010 000. They can validate the VAT number and verify the name and address that you give them is correct.
