Scheme of the Month - Get Gorge-ous Cycle Challenge

Get Gorge-ous Challenge

The Get Gorge-ous Cycle Challenge is organised by Cycle Bristol CTC to encourage and support new and nervous cyclists. They offer a series of bike rides starting at five miles in January, gradually increasing the distance so that people can build up their fitness and confidence to tackle the 50-mile challenge ride in June.

The first year was a great success. Of the 120 people who registered in January 2009, 80 successfully completed the challenge

Louise Neal

What is your job or other main activity that involves cycling?
I am the Cycling Officer for Darlington Borough Council, the only town to be both a Sustainable Travel Demonstration and Cycling Demonstration Town.

How long have you done that?
I have worked for Darlington Borough Council for 5 years.


Cycling England’s Mid-term Review

Cycling England’s Mid-term Review marks the half way stage of the 2008/2011 Spending Review. The review highlights key milestones both for cycling and for Cycling England, including initial results from the Cycling Demonstration Town programme. These show that all towns have achieved significant success in getting more people cycling.
