Brief Description

The Operations Group is part of the Food Standards Agency. We are responsible for the protection of public health and animal health and welfare through inspection and the enforcement of meat hygiene legislation in approved meat establishments in Great Britain.
The post holder will contribute to the achievement of the FSA organisational aims of cost effectiveness, efficiency and consistency through the provision of effective operational support on a national basis to field managers and staff.

Main duties and responsibilities will include:
• Providing support on major projects such as the transfer of Tuberculosis Reactor sampling from Defra Animal Health to the Operations Group.
• Day to day maintenance and continual update of contingency plans such as Disaster Recovery and Pandemic Flu taking account of changing policies and customer requirements.
• Providing support to operational managers in the event of emergency situations (e.g. animal disease outbreaks, industrial action) through the provision of detailed and clear information; act as a point of contact for queries and provide support to meetings and briefing sessions.
 

Vacancy description

Responsible for the collation of relevant information from other departments and external stakeholders and the production of briefings to senior managers.
Day to day maintenance and continual update of contingency plans, taking account of changing policies and customer requirements.
Provide support to operational managers in the event of emergency situations (e.g. disease outbreaks) through the provision of detailed and clear information; act as a point of contact for queries and provide support to meetings and briefing sessions.

Analysis of management information and production of reports on any areas of planning under the direction of senior staff to inform decision making by senior managers, MHS Board and SLA customers.

Accountable for the line and performance management of direct reports, including assessment against the appropriate competency frameworks, performance review and the provision of appropriate development, coaching and on-going support in line with required skills profiles and MHS culture.
Resolution of issues raised by AOs or identification of appropriate follow-up action. Manages resources and allocation of tasks to AOs/AA to ensure that reporting deadlines are met and accurate information is submitted.

Analysis of DPU monthly budget and provision of statistical information to the Delivery Planning Manager that identifies any variancies, explanations for them and suggested corrective action.
Dealing with correspondence of a more complex/sensitive nature including: drafting responses to parliamentary questions; replies to complaints; and requests for briefings from external stakeholders.
