Brief Description

An exciting new opportunity has become available in a newly developed in-house Digital Communications team, within EPSRC.


The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) was established in 1994 and is one of seven UK Research Councils. EPSRC is the main UK government agency for funding research and training in engineering and the physical sciences, investing over £850 million a year in a broad range of subjects from mathematics to materials science and from information technology to structural engineering.
 

Vacancy description

You will be responsible for creating stimulating and professional designs for various digital communications mediums, as well as taking responsibility for project managing the technical implementation of websites and monitoring social media sites.


We are looking for someone that has;

  • Proven design and development skills, including knowledge of XHTML, CSS and Adobe Suite (including PhotoShop, Illustrator and Flash)
  • Proven experience of managing corporate social media accounts
  • An understanding of development, support and design based environments and the restrictions of these
  • Knowledge and understanding of digital communications and the ability to keep up to date with trends
  • Strong ability to think creatively and act on own initiative while advising within recognised standards
  • Knowledge of, or aptitude for, project management, preferably with an understanding of PRINCE 2
  • Understanding of web accessibility issues

Skills

  • Proven design and development skills, including knowledge of XHTML, CSS and Adobe Suite (including PhotoShop, Illustrator and Flash)                                                         
  • Ability to prioritise and respond quickly to changing priorities and deadlines
  • An understanding of development, support and design based environments and the restrictions of these
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and relationship building skills
  • Good negotiation skills and the ability to deal confidently with people at all levels of seniority within and outside EPSRC
  • Appreciation of business needs and the ability to quickly identify communications issues that need to be addressed
  • Ability to investigate, research and evaluate/analyse faults/results to act upon the outcomes to produce recommendations for senior decision-making
  • Ability to monitor and control specific areas of work
  • Strong ability to think creatively and act on own initiative while advising within recognised standards

Qualifications

  • Degree in relevant subject or equivalent experience

Experience

  • Proven experience of managing corporate social media accountsProven history of technical specification writing
  • Knowledge and understanding of digital communications and the ability to keep up to date with trends
  • Understanding of website user needs and priorities
  • Excellent general PC skills (MS Office packages, e-mail and use of the internet/browsers) and aptitude to quickly learn new computing skills
  • Ability to work as a flexible, proactive, positive, self motivated member of a team
  • Excellent administration skills and a high level of attention to detail
  • Knowledge of, or aptitude for, project management, preferably with an understanding of PRINCE 2
  • Have an interest in all digital communications and keep up to date with new technologies, techniques and trends
  • Understanding of web accessibility issues
  • An interest in science, and how science impacts on the economy
