Department for Culture Media and Sport

lifelong learning

We are committed to developing the educational potential of our cultural and sporting resources, raising standards of cultural education, training and skills supply.

Our sectors provide lifelong learning opportunities for all. For example, both the BBC and Channel 4 produce high quality and informative educational programmes.

In addition, museums, libraries, galleries, archives, arts organisations and the built and historic environments are educational resources for people of all ages and backgrounds. They have the potential to engage adult learners, including those with basic skills needs, who do not find formal education attractive or accessible.

We work with the Department for Children, Schools and Families and NIACE, the national organisation for adult learning, to make sure our sectors offer effective, productive and enjoyable lifelong learning opportunities.
