Many of these initiatives are part of the broader cross government agenda for Creating Safer Greener Communities. Visit www.cleanersafergreener.gov.uk for more information on this topic.

ACT ON CO2
All cars on the road today contribute to climate change because their engines burn fuel and therefore produce carbon dioxide (CO2) every time we drive. Yet you can easily reduce these emissions and save money too. By following a few simple tips and suggestions on the Act On CO2 website you can reduce your engine's workload, which means it will burn less fuel and produce less CO2.

Shared space
Shared space is a concept predominantly aimed at reducing the impact of motor traffic in places used by pedestrians. Shared spaces often feature minimal road signing and marking - some schemes also have a shared surface, where kerbs are omitted and pedestrians share a common surface with vehicular traffic. With no clear indication of priority, motorists are encouraged to drive more slowly and interact directly with pedestrians, cyclists, and other motorists.
