Productive Leader

The Productive Leader

About the programme

The Productive Leader is about developing high performing teams to help drive a high performing NHS.  It builds on the NHS Institute's successful Productive series using the principles of Lean Thinking and Six Sigma to enable teams to reduce waste and variation in personal work processes.

The programme has been developed over a two year period in co-production with NHS executive teams in acute hospital trusts, primary care trusts and mental health trusts.Leadership teams and staff, both in the NHS and in other sectors, can be overwhelmed by a seemingly endless stream of administration, meetings and emails.

The Productive Leader, from the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, can help you and your team to filter out time wasting activities and free up time to make the decisions that matter.

As a programme, it features a combination of facilitated and self-development modules, supporting teams to identify improvement in high impact areas such as email management, meetings and workload management.

"This project has helped me and my senior colleagues scrutinise the ways in which we use and abuse our time and has identified areas of waste in our systems and processes."
