More advanced learners of English as an additional language in secondary schools and colleges
In the spring of 2002 Ofsted carried out an inspection exercise to identify good practice in Key Stage 4 and post-16 provision which takes account of the continuing need of many bilingual students for language support in their work on General Certificate of Secondary Education, General National Vocational qualifications and General Certificate of Education advanced-level (A-level) courses.

The education of asylum-seeker pupils
For this report, Ofsted surveyed 37 schools in 11 local education authorities (LEAs) to evaluate the impact of the arrival of pupils from asylum-seeker families. The LEAs covered London, metropolitan authorities in the East Midlands and the North West, and three shire counties. The schools comprised one nursery, four first- and two middle-deemed secondary, 23 primary and seven secondary schools.

Writing in English as an additional language at Key Stage 4 and post-16
The Advanced Bilingual Learners’ Writing Project was commissioned as part of an Ofsted study of support for students at Key Stage 4 and post-16 who spoke English as an additional language. The research investigated the writing skills of those who, although at an advanced stage of formal education, may be underachieving in English.
