Submitting your ideas for regulation & legislation policy change

Step 01.

Register on the better regulation website

  • You will need to register on the Better Regulation Website, as ideas or suggestions can not be submitted anonymously.
  • You will be asked to provide your name and/or organisation name, email address, and then agree to Terms and Conditions of the website. No person information will be displayed on the website. All of your other details will only be used for the purpose of dealing with your idea or suggestion. For more details see our Privacy Policy.
  • Once you have completed the registration form an email will be sent to you asking that you validate your contact details. This is to ensure that we can contact you after you have submitted an idea or suggestion.
Step 02.

Submit your idea or suggestion

  • Once you have completed the registration form and responded to the validation email you are ready to submit you idea or suggestion.
  • For each idea or suggestion you need to provide the following information:

    • a title for your idea or suggestion;
    • a description of the problem you face;
    • whether this is caused through conflicting regulations;
    • your idea or suggestion for dealing with this problem;
    • an estimate of how much this would save your organisation if taken forward;
    • the sector that is impacted by this problem; and
    • the department you think is responsible for it.

    Please make sure that the contents of your idea or suggestion conform to the terms and conditions, or it will be rejected. In particular, make sure there is not a similar idea or suggestion already on the site.
  • Once you have completed the form, press the submit button and your idea or suggestion will be sent to the selected department for analysis.
Step 03.

Monitoring your idea or suggestion

  • Your idea will not immediately appear on the website as it needs to be moderated to ensure that it is a valid idea or suggestion. We will check to make sure that it meets the basic requirements set out in our acceptable use policy and the Civil Service code.
  • If you idea or suggestion has been accepted to be considered, you will be able to monitor its progress in the Proposal Tracker section of the proposal page. This tracker will count down the days until we have to respond. Our response to your idea or suggestion will be posted on the proposal page within 90 days of its submission.
  • If your idea or suggestion has been rejected, it will appear in the Rejected Ideas section of the website. For more details about the reasons we reject an idea or suggestion see our rejection criteria.
