We want to ensure that UK consumers are treated fairly, know their rights and can use them effectively, and that consumer law is fair to both consumers and business.
The Department has launched the Know Your Consumer Rights campaign, a major new drive to support consumers and help them understand their legal rights.
The Department is working with Consumer Direct, the Office of Fair Trading, Consumer Focus and the Trading Standards Institute to highlight the campaign.
Consumer Minister Kevin Brennan said:
“Robust protections are in place to support consumers. But we want to see a dramatic improvement in awareness of those protections and rights. "
As part of the launch BIS commissioned researchers to carry out a survey of consumers' understanding of their rights. You can read the executive summary of the survey.
