Purpose

1.     This document announces the allocations to projects by the HEFCE for the Science Research Investment Fund (SRIF).

Key points

2.     SRIF was announced in February 2001. Funds are available to higher education institutions from April 2002 and must be spent by March 2004. The funds have been allocated by formula, and each English higher education institution that received quality-related (QR) research funding was given an allocation.

3.     £600 million was allocated to English institutions for capital projects and investment programmes. Proposals were received and assessed by us in May 2001. Funding decisions were announced to institutions on 16 July 2001.
