Working with institutions to embed widening participation

Widening participation is one of HEFCE's core strategic aims, and an influential component of policy development in all areas of the Council's work. We have identified three areas for our widening participation activity in the coming year. These are:

• widening participation strategic assessments
• better links between higher education institutions, schools, colleges and academies
• new forms of partnership between institutions and communities.

We also continue to work closely with Action on Access and with other partners in order to mainstream and sustain widening participation in institutions and to support student retention and success, in light of our work on widening participation strategic assessments.
