    5 Feb 07: Royal Marines have cleared a Taliban base, consisting of 25 compounds, near the Kajaki hydroelectric dam, in an effort to help bring stability and power to Afghanistan. Once fully operational the dam will bring electricity to 1.8 million people. But the area around Kajaki, northern Helmand Province, has been the site of regular insurgent mortar attacks over the past two months and civilians have been forced from their homes leaving the dam largely unservicable.     17 Feb 07: International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and Afghan troops have targeted the Taliban's gateway to Helmand Province in a major operation to allow Afghans back to their homes. More than 250 troops from several units within the UK Task Force - supported for the first time ever by UK trained Afghan artillery - took part in Operation GLACIER 4. The attack began late Saturday night on 17 February 2007, on three major compounds and carried through until Sunday morning. A significant trench and underground tunnel complex linking the strongholds was also destroyed. From www.mod.uk

Operation LADYSMITH's aim was to re-establish the MNF presence and reassure the local population that MNF will continue to help the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) suppress violence and restore security to pave the way for future prosperity.
