About us

Our strategic priorities

This section of our site explains how we are spending public funds to meet our policy objectives, and the actions we are taking in order to realise our goals.

With the challenge of global events such as the international economic crisis, terrorism, nuclear proliferation and internal conflict in various regions of the world, we work with international and UK cross-governmental partners to secure safer conditions for ourselves and British nationals abroad, as well as helping other nations and organisations to establish stability and promote beneficial international co-operation.

Through the continued development and improvement (both technologically and environmentally) of our global network of embassies and posts, we aim to:

  • promote UK business around the world and to attract business into the UK
  • support and inform British nationals abroad through consular assistance
  • ensure that our borders are open to those that may benefit our economy (as well as those with genuine asylum claims), but closed to those that may bring us harm
  • pursue terrorists and the causes of terrorism, as well as protecting the UK from terrorist attacks
  • stabilise conflict around the world and promote and develop human rights, law and good governance
  • promote a low-carbon, high-growth global economy
  • develop effective international institutions, espectially the United Nations and the European Union.
