How to apply

In this section you will find all the information, guidance and documents you will need when you apply for a UK visa either on the downloaded application form, which is available in pdf format, or online (via our online application service). Staff at our visa application centres can guide you through the application process in your country.

Please note that when visa regimes change, there may be a short delay before the information on our website is updated.

Recent changes include:

The UK Border Agency has made a number of amendments to the Immigration Rules: effective from 1 October 2009, concerning the Sole Representatives of Overseas Businesses category and points-based system categories.

The UK Border Agency has also published revised guidance for migrants who want to study in the United Kingdom under Tier 4 of the points-based system and for dependants of points-based system migrants.

All changes will be reflected in updates to points-based system INF guidance and the visa application form appendices.

Points-based system tier 4: (General) Student and (Child) Student - Students aged 16 or 17 years living independently

From the 1 October 2009, for applications made overseas, the amounts required to meet the maintenance criteria must be held in your personal or your parent(s) / legal guardian(s) bank account for a minimum period of 28 days. The end of that 28 day period must not be more than one month before the date of your application, for which you must show bank statements/other evidence.

The transitional arrangements that were in place allowing funds to be held on the date of application only will no longer apply to overseas applications made on or after 1 October.
