Welcome to the December 2007 Edition

In this issue

This fourth edition of Ofsted News follows a busy few months. As always, about 1,200 establishments are inspected each week. And we've published HMCI's report, which presents evidence from inspections and regulatory visits, as well as findings from surveys and inspection work across Ofsted's remit (see 'latest publications').

We've continued to develop - and consult on - what we do, and there are updates in this edition on most of the key initiatives under way. These include developments to inspection - at the moment Initial Teacher Education, Fostering, and the Early Years Foundation Stage frameworks are in the spotlight. And we're preparing our contribution to the important new Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA) which replaces joint inspectorate reviews and assessments of Local Authority children's services in less than 18 months. We're also seeking your views on plans to publish childminders' names and addresses for the first time.
