The Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC), which operates independently of Ministers, has changed the UK threat level from international terrorism from SEVERE to SUBSTANTIAL.

The means that a terrorist threat is a strong possibility and an attack might occur without further warning.

JTAC assesses the threat from international terrorism by considering all relevant intelligence and information. Its decision is based on a broad range of factors, including the currently assessed intent and capabilities of international terrorist groups.

The threat level can change - up or down - at any time in the future.
