Attitudes towards transport
Understanding the public's attitudes, perceptions and knowledge in relation to transport measures is important for the formulation and monitoring of transport policies. The Department regualrly uses high quality Omnibus Surveys run by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) to provide detailed findings on what the public think about various transport issues and their experiences of different forms of transport. In addition, the Department uses the British Social Attitudes Survey to monitor public attitudes over the long term. Articles arising from the various attitude surveys are listed below.
The public attitude survey data is complemented by the extensive data collected on travel behaviour through the National Travel Survey and various social research projects undertaken by the Department's Social Research and Evaluation Division:
