Scheme of the Month - Heels on Wheels, CTC, Derby

heels_on_wheels1Held in the beautiful Derby Cathedral, this event took place during Bike Week 2009 and was attended by numerous businesswomen. It is the first time that CTC’s Derby Cycle Champion Officer, Amanda has targeted ‘professional ladies’: “It’s really important that women who are involved in business, who have their own large networks of people they can influence, and who are often in the middle of raising a family too, are reminded that cycling is for everyone,” she explains.

Steve FabesWhat is your job or other main activity that involves cycling?
I work as a doctor in a Guys and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London but I leave this January on a 5 year solo bicycle journey across six continents so I’m busy planning and preparing for my trip at the moment.

How long have you done that?
I’ve dreamt of doing a ‘round the world’ bike ride for maybe 7 or 8 years but about 12 months ago I happened upon the route for my journey in a pub garden,


Scheme of the Month - Grand Arcade Cycle Park, Cambridge

The Grand Arcade indoor cycle park, located in Cambridge City Centre, has covered cycle parking spaces for over 200 bicycles. In addition the cycle shop run by Station Cycles, which is based inside the cycle park, offers over 200 valet cycle parking spaces on a daily or long term basis. Luggage lockers are also available from the shop. A free pushchair lending scheme initiated by Cambridge City Council and run by Station Cycles is available
