Promoting and evaluating pupils' Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development & Evaluating secondary citizenship - Two courses
A revised version of this document was published on 21 October 2003, with a complete list of training providers. These courses are intended for use in local authorities and schools, and are based on similar courses for Ofsted inspectors. The document provides details of the course objectives as well as a list of licensed providers who deliver the courses according to Ofsted guidelines.

Performance management of teachers
The new performance management scheme is designed to build on the previous appraisal arrangements and to overcome their weaknesses. In the autumn term of 2001 and the spring term of 2002, Her Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI) visited a representative sample of 82 primary, secondary and special schools to survey their adoption of the performance management scheme.

Progress File: an evaluation of demonstration projects in schools
Ofsted’s evaluation has focused on the use of Progress File in school settings over the first two years of the demonstration projects. In deciding which schools to visit Her Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI) consulted local co-ordinators to identify those which appeared to have made promising steps in implementing the use of Progress File. This report draws on evidence from visits to 47 schools, including five special schools and two pupil referral units.
