The Learning Revolution transforms the learning environment

  • Published: Thursday, 1 October 2009

A large number of partners have joined forces to stage The Learning Revolution Festival in October 2009. The festival is a month-long celebration of all that’s great about learning for pleasure, and the benefits it brings to individuals, families, businesses and communities.

Pushing the boundaries of learning

Learning Revolution: learn for fun in October

Take part in an informal learning event near you

There's an enormous range in the kinds of event on offer, aimed at families as well as people of all ages. Just a few examples are:

  • Hospital Howlers - a competition to write poems in Nottingham's Kings Mill Hospital
  • Plumbing - a six-week introduction to domestic plumbing, in Norfolk
  • Get Growing - a day to help you learn how to grow your own food, in Islington
  • Quilt the Museum - an opportunity to make a quilt with Walsall Patchwork & Quilters, at Walsall Museum
  • Unlock Your Family's Genius - an interactive workshop in Brixton

Informal learning providers can take part

Throughout October, hundreds of events will take place across England. The list of partners highlights the wide range of informal learning available. Informal learning is delivered outside of schools and colleges, at venues that include:

  • libraries
  • art galleries
  • adult education providers
  • sports clubs
  • voluntary organisations
  • self-run groups

If you work or volunteer with one of these groups, your group can showcase its October events and activities on The Learning Revolution's website, by going to website and completing the details under 'add your event'.
