Image reproduction rights
The image library deals with two types of rights.
One-off reproduction fees
Reproduction fees are charged for one-off usage of images in books, magazines, newspapers, broadcast media, exhibitions and on the web.
Email image-library@nationalarchives.gov.uk with details of proposed usage:
- For books: print run, size on the page, rights territories
- For broadcast media: number of transmissions, rights territories
- For exhibition: size of images, duration of display
Merchandising rights
Images can be used on gifts, new media, CD-ROMs, DVDs, homewares, clothing, stationery and calendars or anything else!
Our standard royalty is 7 per cent of net sales revenue (or 10 per cent for product development). An advance of royalties is also normally payable. For smaller production runs an equivalent one-off fee is calculated and payable on licence signature.
Email image-library@nationalarchives.gov.uk with your proposal. Please include details of product(s), quantity or production run, wholesale/retail prices, rights territories, and so on.
We can also suggest images for inspiration, or arrange for you to visit us at Kew to view our unique collection of images.
