About Directgov

Directgov is the website of the UK government for its citizens, providing information and online services for the public all in one place.

What is Directgov?

Directgov aims to provide easy access to government information and services. It does this by working closely with ministerial departments and non-departmental public bodies to collate key information all in one place.

Examples of subjects Directgov can help with include:

  • paying your road tax
  • finding local services such as NHS clinics, solicitors and nurseries

How to use Directgov

You can find specific information and services by searching or you can browse by topics, like:

  • motoring
  • money

  • education

and find information by audience groups, such as:

  • parents

Access government services online

You can complete a number of government services online, like:

  • booking a driving test
  • taxing your car
  • renewing your passport

  • enter www.direct.gov.uk/mobile into your phone's internet browser
  • text MOBILE to 83377 - you will then receive a text message with a link to view Directgov mobile (standard rates apply)

Directgov on your TV

If you are a Sky, Virgin Media, Freeview or Teletext customer you can access a wide range of public service information through your television set with Directgov’s specially designed interactive TV service.

Examples of services you can access through your TV include:
