Curriculum 2000: the first year of implementation

This interim report presents a summary of findings of survey work on the first year of Curriculum 2000 carried out by Ofsted and the new qualifications introduced. The judgements are based on visits by inspectors to a sample of 100 secondary schools in England (see the annex).

Improving attendance and behaviour in secondary schools 2001

This report is based upon the findings of the inspections carried out by Ofsted at the request of the Secretary of State for Education and Employment during 1999/2000. The purpose of the report is to analyse the action taken by schools to address serious problems of attendance and behaviour and to establish how this action relates to other elements of school improvement.

In-service postgraduate training courses for teachers

In the academic year 1996/97, responsibility for allocating funds for the in-service postgraduate training of teachers was transferred to the Teacher Training Agency. A condition of receiving funding was that providers would be inspected by Ofsted.

Raising the achievement of children in public care

  • to identify the impact the specialist schools programme is having on attainment and the quality of provision in the designated schools;
  • to evaluate how schools are managing their role,including their role in relation to other local schools and the wider community;and
