Platinum sponsor of the Awards is KPMG, and also a sponsor is H2O Networks. John Suffolk, the Government's Chief Information Officer, says: "Over the past four years we've found it increasingly difficult to find time to review the ever-growing number of entries for the E-Government National Awards. But it's a challenge I'm delighted to have - the variety and richness of ways that public servants and their private sector counterparts use technology to improve our public services and the lives of our citizens is truly outstanding." "We should be proud of the work we do, and I encourage all teams to nominate their projects so that we celebrate our successes and, more importantly, continue to learn from the very best examples." Prime Minister Gordon Brown joined last year's Awards via video link and said: "The 2008 awards saw a record number of nominations from across the country - individuals, teams and organisations who are using new technologies in innovative and creative ways to deliver better public services." "When times are tough, as they are now, it is more important than ever for government to work as smoothly and efficiently as possible, so it's good to see technology providing real efficiency gains at the same time as increasing the effectiveness of services. " said the Prime Minister. SOLACE, as the singular professional body for chief executives and senior managers, has no hesitation backing these prestigious awards which pinpoint excellence in e-Government. And, Steve Palmer, President of Socitm & CIO at the London Borough of Hillingdon says: "Each year the e-Government National Awards produces some great examples of groundbreaking, transformational projects. Socitm is delighted to continue its support." Keith Bannister, Head of IT Advisory, of Platinum Sponsor KPMG says: "KPMG is delighted to continue its longstanding sponsorship of the e-government awards which recognises excellence in the delivery of public services to UK citizens through new and innovative technologies. We recognise the impressive progress that has been made in recent years as evidenced by the quality of submissions and successfully implemented initiatives. We know that an effective, well-managed IT system is one of the most valuable business advantages an organisation can secure. " "The right technology, implemented properly, appropriately managed and monitored, can lead to significant gains in growth and efficiency. It is essential to get sound business advice to ensure technology risks are managed. IT is challenging to get right and expensive to get wrong — not only in terms of money spent, but also in lost efficiency and potential regulatory infringements. We are leaders at helping our clients to analyse business technology issues within their businesses from strategy and sourcing through to implementation and ongoing operational improvement" Awards sponsor H2O Networks is building low cost fibre optic networks for many forward thinking public sector bodies including local authorities and the NHS. Roy Shelton, director at the firm said: "Having been involved in the E-Government awards in 2008 we saw the calibre of the entries and are thrilled to be sponsoring and supporting such an important event to celebrate ICT excellence in the UK." Christopher Histed, founder of the e-Government National Awards and CEO of organiser PublicTechnology.net says: "In this tough economic climate, the Awards are a yardstick proving the UK's excellence in innovative technology-driven services. Good public sector IT has a crucial role to play in delivering increasingly efficient & effective public sector services both at a Local and National level." These Awards highlight good practice which the whole public sector can identify with and learn from, thereby adding value to their own services and strategies.
