Working across Government for business success

The Prime Minister has asked BIS to act as the voice for business across Government. We will therefore work with others across Government on the issues that really matter to business, focusing initially on the following six areas

  • innovation, where the Government is committed to strengthening the UK’s innovation performance, key to productivity and competitiveness.

  • business taxation, which plays a central role in encouraging growth through its impact on innovation and enterprise – led by HM Treasury and HM Revenue and Customs

  • skills, where the Government is taking action to ensure we have a workforce with world class skills by 2020, building on the Leitch Report.

  • migration, where the Government is committed to reforms of the migration system that deliver the best outcome for business and wider society – led by the Home Office and the Borders and Immigration Authority

  • the planning regime, where the Government is engaged in a radical overhaul of the regime which will increase speed and certainty for business – led by the Department for Communities and Local Government

  • the UK’s transport infrastructure, where Government will be further increasing investment over the coming years to create the infrastructure we need for UK and international business – led by the Department for Transport.

Given the importance of these issues for business, we will work closely with each of the lead Departments to ensure that we deliver outcomes that support UK competitiveness.
