Lord-Lieutenant for Northumberland

The Queen has been pleased to appoint Her Grace the Duchess of Northumberland as Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for the County of Northumberland upon the retirement of Sir John Riddell Bt CVO.

Biographical Notes

The Duchess of Northumberland is well known in the county of Northumberland for a wide range of activities and interests.  She is involved in many charities supporting the elderly and the disabled people of Northumberland and takes a great interest in the county and its people.  She is renowned for envisioning and creating The Alnwick Garden.  It is a large public area enjoyed by people of all ages and all abilities and includes the largest Treehouse in the world plus a Poison Garden which illustrates the dangers of drugs.

Married to Ralph the Duke of Northumberland, they have two sons and two daughters.
