There are six different railcards which offer discount for travel across Britain's trains. These cover discounts for young people, older citizens, disabled people, families, travellers in South East England, and those connected to the armed forces.
Railcards are usually issued alongside a photocard. You must present both of these when buying your ticket in order to claim a discount.
Available to people aged 16-25 and those over 26 in full-time education. The card costs £24 and entitles the holder to 1/3 off many rail fares.
Available to disabled people to allow savings of 1/3 on most standard or first-class tickets for the holder and one companion. It costs £18 for a one-year card or £48 for a three-year card.
Available to people aged 60 and over. The card costs £24 and entitles the holder to 1/3 off most standard and first-class tickets.
Available to anyone who travels by train in South East England for leisure purposes. The card costs £20 and entitles up to four adults to 1/3 off many rail fares and four children aged 5-15 to 60 per cent off the child fare. There is a £10 minimum fare for midweek journeys.
Available to anyone for travel throughout the British rail network. The card costs £24 and entitles up to four adults to 1/3 off most tickets and four children to 60 per cent off child fares.
Available to serving members of the regular forces and their spouses and dependent children. The card costs £15 and entitles the holder to 1/3 off most tickets.
