Cataloguing board

The Cataloguing Panel approved projects, and monitored progress in each year's cataloguing programme. These projects enhanced the quality of the Catalogue, and had to fulfil at least some of the Board's set criteria, namely:

  • To deal with uncatalogued records
  • To link with social inclusion
  • To link with known digitisation projects
  • To fulfil documented reader needs
  • To reduce reliance on supplementary finding aids
  • To fulfil The National Archives' obligations under the Freedom of Information or Data Protection Acts
  • To promote the safety of the records

The Board consisted of senior staff with editorial responsibilities and other staff with knowledge of records and editorial work. The Cataloguing board was wound up in August 2005.
