International trade: General information - Declarations
When we become aware of an incident (e.g. an outbreak of disease) which may constitute a serious threat to animal or public health, we can issue a Declaration making it an offence to import specified animals and/or animal products from the affected country or region.
The Declaration is signed by a senior official on behalf of the Minister. The power to issue Declarations is provided by Animals
and Animal Products (Import and Export) (England) Regulations 2006, the Products of Animal Origin (Import and Export) (England) Regulations 2006 
(274 KB) and the Products of Animal Origin (Import and Export) Regulations 1996 as appropriate and their equivalent in Scotland and Wales.
A Declaration may remain in force until the Minister is satisfied that the situation no longer presents a risk to animal or public health. Copies of Declarations which have been issued in 2007 and 2008 can be found below.
