Training

Research Council training encompasses those activities that develop the careers of researchers and includes postgraduate training at masters and PhD level, postdoctoral awards and research fellowships to established individuals.

Each year, Research Councils invest around £300 million in these activities.

In April 2005, Research Councils set up the RCUK Research Careers and Diversity Unit to take forward the recommendations of SET for Success, a 2002 review led by Sir Gareth Roberts, President of Wolfson College, Oxford. The Unit supports skills training for postgraduate students and works to improve the career paths of researchers.
