Keeping Paris Cool

IEA Executive Director Nobuo Tanaka paid a visit to CLIMESPACE, which is expanding its energy efficient Paris district cooling system (in fact, some construction is taking place just outside IEA headquarters). In this photo, Mr. Tanaka is looking at an electrically-powered water chilling unit. The CLIMESPACE system pumps cold water from the Seine River and circulates it to cool such buildings as the Louvre museum and the National Assembly in the city centre. read more...

Focus on Fossil Fuel Subsidies for G20
23 April 2010
IEA Executive Director Nobuo Tanaka attended the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Governors' Meeting on 23 April in Washington, D.C to participate in the discussions on the implementation of the G20 Pittsburgh mandate to phase out inefficient fossil fuel subsidies. This session drew on the Joint Report that prepared by the IEA, OECD, World Bank and OPEC on the energy security, environmental and economic benefits of phasing-out subsidies. Energy subsidies will also feature as a special focus in the upcoming WEO-2010 to be released on 9 November.
