Citizenship

Year 4 pupils are challenged in an excellent Community Education led Citizenship project to imagine themselves as members of a small village in this area in 500 AD.

"They avidly listened, discussed, made group decisions, and voted for key factors to organise and develop rules, rights and responsibilities. Because the number of trained adults is high, the pupils have skilled advice as they negotiate and make progress. With over 60 Year 4 pupils, most of them still eight years old, and 10 adults, the level of discussion and involvement was exciting, vibrant and purposeful. This is the third year of its successful operation in this school. Pupils learn about the democratic process in Birmingham, continued in the election of a councillor from each participating year group on an active community forum, with links to the area and city-wide council decision-making forums.
