The complaints commitment relates to complaints made against registered childminders and childcare providers.
Our commitment will give parents and carers easy, quick and up-to-date access to complaints information; they will no longer have to wait for an inspection to take place.

Today sees the publication of Ofsted responses to Lord Laming’s inquiry The Protection of Children in England: A Progress Report and to Sir Roger Singleton’s report Keeping Our Children Safe, a review of safeguarding arrangements in independent schools, non-maintained special schools and boarding schools in England.

Opportunities to work with an inspiring teacher, a visiting artist or in an art gallery can have an immediate and lasting impact on pupils’ creative aspirations and achievement, says Drawing together: art, craft and design in schools. However, these experiences were rarely available to all pupils, the report reveals.

New inspection arrangements for maintained schools will be introduced in September 2009. A large-scale pilot programme took place in the autumn term 2008.

Teachers welcome inspection and observation in school
An independent survey of teachers’ views on Ofsted’s inspections of schools has found that almost 90% of teachers think that inspection helps their schools set new priorities for the future. 84% think it is important that their lessons are observed by inspectors.

The survey looks at the best English and modern foreign language provision in colleges, placing an emphasis on effective teaching and team-working, study visits and cultural activities, and overseas work placements through employer links.

Ofsted is piloting a whistleblower hotline. The hotline will enable council employees and those working with young children to report concerns about practices and procedures for the safeguarding of children and young people.
