THE OFFICERS PACKAGE

  • Officers are the senior managers of the Royal Navy. To join as an officer, you will need 180 UCAS points and 5 GCSEs (A*-C)/ 5 Scottish Standard Grades (1-3)/ equivalent (including English and maths).

    Promotion

    How your career progresses will depend on your choices and achievements. Promotion to Lieutenant is automatic, provided that you pass the training and perform to an acceptable level.

    After that, opportunities exist for promotion to Lieutenant-Commander and beyond if you prove your ability to lead and achieve certain career milestones.

    Pay

    You will find that Royal Navy pay compares well with similar civilian jobs. As well as basic pay, we offer extra money for special skills and daily allowances for being at sea after a certain period.

    The Royal Navy reviews rates of pay each year and will increase your pay if you are promoted.

    Benefits

    We also offer a good pension scheme, six weeks' holiday a year on full pay, and excellent free medical and dental care.

    Minimum service

    All Officers join the Royal Navy on a 12-year Initial Commission. After that, you may have the opportunity to transfer to longer commissions, which can give service up to the age of 55.
