Raising standards, improving lives: The Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills Strategic Plan 2007-2010

A revised version of the Strategic Plan was published on 17 October 2007.

The Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills is a new organisation, which brings together expertise from four predecessor inspectorates. It will retain the name Ofsted.

The new Ofsted covers the regulation and inspection of daycare and children's social care, and the inspection of children's services, schools, colleges, initial teacher training, work-based learning, adult education and more.

The Strategic Plan sets out how we propose to discharge these responsibilities over the next three years. Listening to stakeholders will be fundamental to the way we operate. We therefore actively seek comments on the Plan from all with an interest in our work; future versions of the Plan will reflect that dialogue.

Recruitment with conviction

Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), accounting for over half of the UK workforce, play a crucial role in employing ex-offenders and re-integrating them into society. This report asserts that the Government’s drive to reduce re-offending through skills and employment needs to pay greater attention to the needs and perspectives of SMEs in order to succeed.
