Sir Michael Wright has been appointed as Assistant Deputy Coroner, by her Majesty’s Coroner Inner South London, Mr John Sampson, for the purposes of hearing the Inquest into the death of Jean Charles de Menezes.

The purpose of this website is to keep the public informed of details relating to the Inquest, including transcripts of the proceedings and evidence seen by the jury.

The Inquest hearings will start on the 22nd September 2008 at the Oval Conference Centre.

The costs incurred by the Inquest from April to December have been added to this website and can be viewed on the Costs page.

Sitting days

The Inquest is now closed.

Ruling on the verdicts and inquisition

Sir Michael Wright has issued a ruling on the verdicts and inquisition and a supplementary ruling on the verdicts and inquisition which can be viewed on the Directions and Decisions page.

Verdict

The jury has returned their verdict, which can now be viewed on the Hearing Transcripts page.

Operational Note

An operational note has been issued by the Press Office, which can be viewed on the Press Notices page.

Sitting Days

There will a number of changes as to the court sitting days, which are outlined below:

  • Between 11th and 19th November, the Court will be closed for legal written submissions.
  • Between 20th and 21st November, the Court will be open for legal oral submissions, but the annex will be closed. The jury will not be present and reporting restrictions will apply.
  • Between 24th and 28th November, the Court will be closed.
  • On the 1st December, the Court will be open for legal arguement, but the annex will be closed. The jury will not be present and reporting restrictions will apply.
  • From 2nd December, the Court will run as usual.

Uploads

Hearing Transcripts and evidence seen by the inquest jury in open court will be published on this website on a daily basis. The transcripts will be uploaded on the evening of the same day. All evidence that has not been redacted will be uploaded the morning after, due to formatting issues. The Coroner has issued guidance on the reproduction of this information.

Anonymous Witness Pictures

Sir Michael Wright has issued a statement with regards as to photographing the anonymous witnesses, which can be viewed on the Directions and Decisions page.
