Frequently Asked Questions

How long will the Observatory run?

The Programme initially ran for three years, until early 2008. It is proposed the Phase 2 programme of work will initially run for 3 years, with a further option for an additional 2 years.

How much will the Programme cost?

The programme will initially cost in the region of £340,000 per year with contributions from key stakeholders including Natural England and Environment Agency.

Will the research work draw on existing work?

Yes. The internal team will continue to draw together all the various strands of evidence, assess their implications and report on findings.

At what national level will the Observatory focus?

The programme of research will be focused in general on England.

Will the scope of the Observatory look to continue and develop beyond the three-year programme?

Yes, consideration is being given to an extended Phase 2 programme of work to continue beyond the initial 3 years.
