Council of Food Policy Advisors

On 6 October 2008 Hilary Benn announced that he was establishing a Council of Food Policy Advisors to provide advice on a wide range of food policy issues. This reflects the growing importance of food policy, and Defra’s new role in co-ordinating this across Government. The Council has now started work, chaired by Dame Suzi Leather.

Latest news

The morning session of the meeting on the 23rd March 2009 will be an open meeting held in a Central London location.  Members of the public are invited to come an observe the council meeting and, time permitting, ask questions following the discussion.  The focus of the session will be on food and public health.  Places to observe the meeting are limited, and will be issued on a first come, first served basis.  If you would like to attend please E-mail food.council@defra.gsi.gov.uk stating your name, contact address and area of interest by Friday 13th March. 

The following presentations were made to the Council of Food Policy Advisors at their meeting on 19 January 2009. Each presentation lasted for approximately 15 minutes and facilitated a discussion on the subject, details of this discussion can be found in the note of the meeting.
