Reservoir Owners’ Seminars – June and July 2009
In order to inform reservoir owners about Government’s proposed changes to the way reservoirs are regulated, Defra, the Cabinet Office and the Environment Agency are organising a number of seminars in June and July. These seminars will provide an opportunity for discussion and feedback on some of the proposals within the draft Floods and Water Bill and the proposed Ministerial Direction and how these will affect owners and operators of reservoirs.
To find out more about the seminars, to make suggestions and to express your possible interest in attending please read the letter (PDF 122 KB) and feedback form (Microsoft Word document 214 KB).
Summer 2007 Flooding in England: Government Response
17 December 2008 - the Government publishes it's response to Sir Michael Pitt's review of the 2007 Summer Floods:
Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk
Anyone who has suffered flooding or coastal erosion will testify to the stress, disruption and unhappiness that can be caused as well as the physical danger and loss.
Managing flood and coastal erosion risk sustainably is central to Defra's work on addressing environmental risk and emergencies. The Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management pages provide details of our programme of work which includes managing the investment of significant levels of public funding, helping communities adapt to climate change and become more resilient, strengthening emergency planning arrangements, improving co-ordination of surface water flood risk and liaison with the Association of British Insurers on the availability of flood insurance.
Following the Pitt Review into the 2007 floods and the Government’s Water Strategy, Future Water, the Government intends to publish a draft Floods and Water Bill for consultation in 2009.
We are committed to working closely with those directly affected by flooding and coastal erosion. There are a number of ways in which you can get involved.
