Importation of and transit through the community of game meat from third countries

Purpose
  1. To advise you of revised EU legislation in respect of the importation of, and transit through the Community of game meat from Third countries.
Background
  1. Commission Decision 2000/585/EC draws up a list of third countries from which Member States are to authorise imports of rabbit meat and certain wild and farmed game meat and lays down the veterinary certification requirements for such imports.
  2. This Decision is repealed and replaced on 1 June by Commission Regulation (EC) No 119/20091.
  3. Consignments of meat derived from wild leporidae, certain wild land mammals and of farmed rabbits imported from third countries should continue to be accompanied by certificates laid down in decision 2000/585/EC. 
  4. From 1 June consignments of such meat must be accompanied by certificates laid down in Regulation (EC) No 119/2009. 
  5. For a transitional period, consignments accompanied by certificates laid down in Decision 2000/585/EC may be imported into, or transit through the Community until 30 June 2009.
  6. Any consignment accompanied by certificates laid down in Decision 2000/585/EC arriving in the Community after 30 June will be rejected and either re-exported or destroyed.
