International trade: Customer Information Notes - CIN/09/23
Trade instructions due to avian influenza
Purpose
1. To inform that Avian Influenza has been confirmed on 26 February 2009 in turkeys on two premises in Norfolk and Suffolk. The virus has been identified as strain H6N1. Tests have ruled out both H5 and H7 strains.
Further tests to confirm the pathogenicity of the virus involved are in progress and results will take several days. The disease has been confirmed only as Avian Influenza.
2. Restrictions are in place on the two holdings involved but at this stage, there are no area restrictions in place around the affected farms.
Intra Community Trade
3. EU trade in live poultry, hatching eggs and poultry meat can continue as normal from all areas of United Kingdom, the only exception being the two individual holdings where the disease exists.
Third Country Trade
4. We have not placed any export certificates for poultry and poultry related commodities on hold. Exporters need to be aware that in the current situation some export consignments for live birds and other poultry commodities may not be able to go ahead.
Exporters should be aware that your local Animal Health Divisional offices (AHDOs)/ Carlisle can only issue export certificates for affected commodities if they are able to certify the notifiable disease clearances/statements in the relevant export health certificate. Your AHDOs/Carlisle may also be recalling some export certificates which have been issued in the past 10 days where exports have not yet been taken place.
