1. To inform exporters that South Africa has lifted its recent suspension of imports of pork and pork products (including petfood) from Northern Ireland imposed due to the contamination of animal feed by dioxins in the Republic of Ireland.
Background
2. As advised in CIN APE/08/182 of 18th December 2008 the South African authorities wrote to the UK to explain that they had partially lifted the restrictions on the import of meat and dairy products and other edible products of animal origin (including petfood) from the whole of the EU, with the exception of pork and products containing pork (including petfood) from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. This trade restriction was the result of the then recent dioxin contamination incident in the Republic of Ireland.
3. The South African authorities have now written to the CVO explaining that they have lifted their remaining restrictions in relation to Northern Ireland. As a result, the following export health certificates can now be released:
6914EHC Pet treats of avian and/or porcine origin only
4187EHC Minamino syrup
4185EHC Petfood in hermetically sealed containers and/or dried petfood
