New licence for imports of live pigs from Northern Ireland for slaughter

Purpose

To advise stakeholders that there is a new general licence for the importation of pigs for slaughter from Northern Ireland.

Background

We have been working with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Northern Ireland to prepare a new import licence for trade in pigs for slaughter from Northern Ireland

The licence IMP/GEN/2009/01 (PDF) which is available on our website came into effect today.

Colleagues in Northern Ireland have prepared new health certificates and guidance notes in line with this licence and have distributed them as appropriate.

You should ensure that pigs for slaughter from Northern Ireland are imported in accordance with the new rules.
