USA trade restrictions - USDA ban on Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) susceptible imports has been eased for Surrey

Introduction

This CIN is to inform exporters that with effect from 8 January 2009 we understand that  the US authorities (USDA) will allow imports of certain FMD susceptible animals, meat and other animal products into the United States from Surrey.

Background

Following the outbreak of foot and mouth disease in the United Kingdom in August 2007, APHIS placed restrictions and prohibitions on the importation of products from the County of Surrey derived from FMD-susceptible species.

Highlights

To facilitate international trade, Defra is currently making amendments to the following certificates.  The revised versions will be available over the next few days:

  • Bovine Semen – 138EHC
  • Bovine Embryos – 6387EHC
  • Ovine Semen – 3721 EHC
  • Caprine Semen – 3750EHC
  • Pig Meat – 1631EHC
  • Breeding Pigs – 1196EHC
  • Dairy Products to the EU for Onward Shipment to the USA – 6274EHC

The remaining certificates will be amended as requested on a case-by-case basis through Animal Health Offices.
