Zoonoses and foodborne animal pathogens

Zoonoses are defined by the World Health Organisation as "Diseases and infections which are naturally transmitted between vertebrate animals and man". A zoonotic agent may be a bacterium, virus, fungus, parasite, or other communicable agent. Zoonoses cover a broad range of diseases with different clinical and epidemiological features and control measures.

9 October 2008 - Information bulletin: Defra publishes Zoonoses UK report 2007. The report is available here.

23 September 2008 - Consultation: Consultation on the National Control Programme for Salmonella in Broiler Flocks (Gallus gallus). The consultation will close on 15 December 2008.  An information bulletin has been issued.

20 May 2008 - The Summary of responses to the consultation on the implementation of the National Control Programme for Laying Flocks (PDF 40KB) has been published.
