Overview
The Companies Act 2006 (formerly the Company Law Reform Bill) received Royal Assent on 8th November 2006. The Act will effectively replace existing companies legislation with the exception of provisions relating to company investigations and community interest companies.

When will the Act come into force?
All parts of the Act will come into force by October 2009, but there will be early commencement of some of the provisions. For the latest implementations click here

BERR has launched a consultation on proposed amendments to the Companies House Trading Fund Order, in order to create a unified UK Registry of Companies. Click here to see the consultation document and impact assessment, and for details of how to comment.

Why is the annual return form changing?
The form has changed so only the appropriate shareholder details need to be completed depending on whether or not the company is a traded public company.
