Opening remarks to Children, Schools and Families Select Committee by Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Education, Children’s Services and Skills
Christine Gilbert HMCI gave oral evidence to the Children, Schools and Families Select Committee of the House of Commons. She was joined on the panel of witnesses by Directors Michael Hart (Children), Vanessa Howlison (Finance), and Miriam Rosen (Education). This Committee Hearing is one of two appearances that HMCI is required to make before the Committee each year, and an opportunity for MPs to ensure that Ofsted is directly accountable to Parliament and the public at large.
The Committee members – representing all three major political parties and chaired by Barry Sheerman MP – questioned the witnesses on the full range of Ofsted’s work. The meeting generally opens with the Chairman inviting HMCI to make a brief introductory statement. This news article reproduces these opening remarks.
