Energy Flow Chart

The Energy Flow Chart illustrates the flow of primary fuels from home production and imports to their eventual final uses. They are shown in their original state and after being converted into different kinds of energy by the secondary fuel producers. The flows are measured in million tonnes of oil equivalent, with the widths of the bands approximately proportional to the size of the flow they represent.

The Chart shows the flows for 2007. This product is currently updated once every three years, with the next update planned for summer 2011, which will contain the 2010 UK energy flows.

You can also order a free printed copy online via BERR Reports & Publications.

Flow charts for the individual fuels, Coal, Petroleum, Gas, Electricity and Renewables, are contained in the publication The Digest of United Kingdom Energy Statistics 2008. This is the first time that flow charts have been produced for individual fuels; annual updates will appear in subsequent editions of the Digest publication and in Annex H of the internet version of the Digest on the BERR website.
